First Show

I've always wanted to get into jazz. For years I've been attempting it, listening attentively, tastefully blaring it in the car, hoping to set the mood, but with no avail. I just never really got it. Actually, I still don't. However, the more important thing is that I'm coming appreciate the genre.

So, due to a lack of dj's at the radio station, and a tendency to sign up for things before thinking them through, I have fallen into a jazz show on Wednesdays.

The dreaded jazz slot at the radio station. WMUL's equivalent of jury duty. It has been torturing unsuspecting volunteers for years. Lulled into submission by director praise and free pens, many have fallen victim. I am no better.

However, I'm actually pretty excited about the whole thing. I've been listening to pop music too long, I'm ready to expand my horizons a little. I think this is gonna be a real cool excuse to check out jazz music at least once a week. Besides, all the ladies like jazz music...or was that old ladies?

The plan is to showcase one classic jazz album while I try and commentate. Also, a Nina Simone song of the week, mystery jam from the Jazz drawer, and more to come. And it's all gonna be live on the radio!

Also, I'm gonna try and record the shows and should be posting them as weekly podcasts.

So tune in Wednesday 11-noon on 88.1 FM.

This week's featured album: "The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady" by Charles Mingus

  1. Yay! This old lady likes Jazz!

How cool! This sounds fun. I hope you enjoy it. I wish I didn't have class during your show :(

I think a Nina Simone song of the week is a very enticing hook.

Ha- The dreaded Jazz slot. I'll be around this summer and might be interested in serving that jury duty...

    Good luck! Be cool.

  2. Hey Erika! Thanks!:D I think the show went pretty well, you can download it, now. As for your own show, just come down to the station, they'd probably be happy to sign you up.
