False Start...

So here I sit at the radio station with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. The show I had planned/researched for was to be about Thelonius Monk, but after realizing I had unneccesarily hauled a blank disc to the station, as opposed to one with thelonius monk, this week's show might not work out. So it goes.

Next Week... Zoe is dumb.

Ain't no stoppin us now

So, summer's over, school has started, and I have managed to sneak back into a jazz slot at WMUL. It's nice to be back, and despite being exceedingly busy, once again, the show will be on at a new time on the same day and the same station - Wednesday's at 9 in the morning on 88.1.

As for the podcast, it will be posted the next day on here, so on and so forth.

Now for the most important part - the Jazz. After a summer filled mostly with Organic Chemistry and Hip-hop music, I'm excited to get back to something a little different...something real.

The 1962 jazz classic Monk's Classic will be featured tomorrow, tune in!

Hey that one thing

So, in case you haven't noticed, it's summertime!

This means a lot of things for a lot of people; however, for me it mostly means benzene rings, isomers, and aldehydes - I'm taking organic chemistry. This also means, if you hadn't already guessed, the show is taking a 3 month hiatus. But do not fret, it will be returning in the fall with podcasts in toe. :D

Til then, jazz is really great in the summer time, so here a couple of my faves for the summer:

Ooops.

So, I'm right in the middle of this week's show, and after a series of glaring mistakes I'm probably not gonna post it. Actually, definitely no. I was out pretty late last night and I was definitely not ready to do a radio show this early in the morning. Anywho, round about midnight stills sounds nice on the radio if you wanna tune in.

Otis, my man.

So I'm at work, in the basement of the community college. Only one of my appointments showed up today, so after playing Castlevania for roughly an hour, I've resorted to drinking coffee and listening to Otis Redding.

It's a little boring. I just got up to get another cup of coffee and the Asian girl in the next cubicle is passed out on her keyboard.

But on to more interesting topics. Tune in tomorrow 11 to noon for smooth solo's, loose bass, and muted horns:

A Roller Skating Jam Named 'Saturdays'

So I got up at 1 and I've been in the library since 1:30. It's almost 9. If you wanna know anything about bacteriophages or the lytic cycle or conjugation, just say the word. I was planning on listening to Miles Davis the whole day but ended up listening to Bob Dylan and Neil Young for about 7 hours. I did check out this video:

Miles Davis "All of You" ft. Herbie Hancock on Piano

The performance isn't spectacular, honestly I thought the sax solo was better than any of Davis' solo's, but Miles' swagger and his creativity pull it through. Honestly, the sax solo cooks, but Miles' are much more interesting musically I think. On top of that, this was recorded in 1964 and Miles' and been playing this song for who knows how long, at least since 1955 When it was released on 'Round About Midnight. The real treat is just the way he carries himself. That swagger is out of control.
